Classroom Announcements
Just a few notes/reminders:
- We will send home Scholastic book fliers in your child's folder once or twice a month. If you would like to order books to add to your home library you may purchase from Scholastic online or fill out the order form and send that and the payment back in your child's purple folder. If you order online, please use our class code QBGZY. This will help our class earn free books! Ordering books from Scholastic is completely optional. I will place the class order once at the end of each month. If you would like to look online, the website is: https://clubs.scholastic.com/ (sign up as a parent and enter our class code to begin shopping). If you have any questions, please let me know!
- Next Friday, 3/8 will be an early release day. Dismissal will be at 12:30.
- Please collect and send in Box Tops as you find them on items at home! These help our school earn money.
What We Are Learning
Reading: We are adding tools to our reading tool box! These include triple checking when trying to figure out a word (Does it look right? Does it sound right? Does it make sense?), reading fluently in a smooth voice, and following the dialogue. We are also learning about point of view and deciding who is telling the story (is it a narrator or a character?).
Writing: We are working on opinion writing! We have written about our favorites and least favorites, and now we are moving on to reviews and writing letters to convince others.
Letterland: Our unit this week is ar and or words. Our spelling list is: starting, farm, yard, large, car, born, storm, for, morning, come, hello, heard, Jordan, Carla, field and thunder.
Math: We are working on place value and different types of addition. In place value, we are working on representing two-digits numbers by showing tens and ones. Students can show this with tens sticks and ones counters, or using tens frames. For addition, we are working on adding a one digit number to a two digit number (ex. 46+7) and adding a decade number to a two digit number (ex. 32+20). Students are working with changing place values and making a ten when adding some one digit numbers to two digit numbers.
Social Studies: We are learning about goods, services, producers, consumers, earning, spending, and income. We are also working on maps. We will begin our next science unit on animals soon.
